Project Description
BioBank is a highly specialised secure research facility located in Sydney’s Health precinct in the city’s inner west.
Design challenges
Although the facility required a complete refurbishment, the presence of a Mental Health facility in the ground floor of the building meant traditional gravity drainage was impossible for this first-floor facility as access to the ceiling space on the floor below was unobtainable.
In addition, the project had a very tight time-frame and also required some chemicals and waste to be sent to a dilution tank before going to waste.
Why was vacuum a solution?
Avac’s Vacuum Plumbing solutions were selected for the BioBank project because our piping network can be installed above the slab, typically in the ceiling duct, meaning no core drilling or access to the floor below is required.
Additionally, the Avac system can be designed to divert different waste streams easily. Also, our team was able to operate within and around the restrictions of other trades on the site, meaning the project was able to finish on time.
Avac Australia specialises in vacuum toilet and drainage solutions in addition to electronic water management systems. Contact our design teams today.

“We were heavily restricted by access to the ceiling below, so this project could not have proceeded without Avac’s Vacuum plumbing design and implementation”
