Project Description

Rail operators routinely ‘stable’ their country and regional trains for parking, servicing and maintenance. The old decanting system had reached its expiry date and was deemed unsatisfactory due to repeated blockages and safety issues.

Design challenges

It was very difficult & expensive to use traditional gravity methods to retrofit the facility because the concrete train ‘roads’ are typically 1M-3M thick. In addition, Queensland Rail could not afford interruptions to the programmed maintenance and cleaning procedures for their trains.

Why was vacuum a solution?
Avac was selected to provide a retrofit solution because our piping network can be laid above ground meaning no excavation is required. In addition, the Avac system ensures less blockages and greater operator safety. Most importantly, our team was able to operate within and around the restrictions of Queensland Rail’s programmed maintenance and cleaning, meaning minimal interruption to operations.

Avac Australia specialises in vacuum toilet and drainage solutions in addition to electronic water management systems. Contact our design teams today.
