Project Description
With the capacity of the WACA at just 24,500 and Subiaco at 43,500 the West Australian Government wanted to build a higher capacity world class sporting arena. The New Perth Stadium has a 60,000 seat capacity and is situated on the banks of the picturesque Swan River and within close proximity to Perth’s CBD.
Design challenges
Built on unstable, sandy marshlands, there is an expectation that a building of this magnitude will ‘shift’ over time. Further to that, the soil is particularly reactive and the water table is relatively high. The building was therefore constructed as four quadrants which can move independently.
The pre-existing water supply and waste network infrastructure were incapable of supplying a facility of this size when fully attended.
There was an environmental risk of polluting the Swan River with raw sewage if a leak were to occur.
Why was vacuum a solution?
Avac’s Vacuum Plumbing solutions was selected for the New Perth Stadium project because our piping network can be fitted above ground, meaning no waste is draining under the slab. Also, if the building moves and a leak does occur it is easier to locate and repair in a vacuum system, than in a traditional gravity system
Additionally, Avac toilets require only 0.7-1.5L per flush meaning less demand on both water usage and waste.
Avac Australia specialises in vacuum toilet and drainage solutions in addition to electronic water management systems. Contact our design teams today.
