Project Description Cairns airport wished to update the commercial retail space located in their T2 Domestic Airport.  With a project size of approximately 9000 sqm, this included 18 new retail tenancies with sanitary drainage and 10 new food & beverage tenancies with trade waste drainage options.

Design challenges Faced with the challenge of a pre-existing prestressed slab, finding a feasible path for installation was difficult without the use of an expensive and long x-ray scan.

With the domestic terminal being open to the public 24/7, the terminal upgrade needed to be delivered in multiple stages, to ensure that the rest of the terminal was still operational.

Why was vacuum a solution?Avac’s Vacuum Plumbing solution eliminated the need to cut into the slabs of the existing building, ensuring a cost-effective and faster install for the client than standard plumbing, with minimal disturbance.

Utilising the open ceiling spaces enabled easy access to terminal upgrades and maintenance. Most importantly our vacuum solution created flexibility to upgrade, add or relocate other tenancies in the future.
